Let Heartland Handyman Take care of all your fall preventative maintenance needs to get your home ready for winter.  A few examples include: 

Outdoor Maintenance:

• Clean Gutters and Downspouts: Remove leaves and debris to prevent clogs and water damage.
• Trim and Fertilize Plants: Cut back overhanging tree branches to prevent damage from falling limbs.  Fertilize trees and shrubs and prune dead or overgrown branches.
• Aerate and Seed Lawn: Aerating and overseeding can help maintain a healthy lawn.
• Turn Off Outdoor Faucets: Drain and disconnect hoses to prevent freezing pipes.  Shut off and drain outdoor irrigation systems to prevent freezing damage. 
• Clean and Store Summer Gear: Put away summer items like pool equipment, patio furniture, trampolines, etc. 

Indoor Maintenance:

• Seal Windows and Doors: Check for drafts and use weatherstripping or caulk to seal gaps.
• Test Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Replace batteries and ensure they are in working order.
• Clean and Service Humidifier: If you use a humidifier, clean it and replace any filters.
• Check Insulation: Inspect and add insulation in attics and crawl spaces if needed.
• Inspect and Clean Dryer Vent: Remove lint buildup to prevent fire hazards.
• Check for Pest Infestations: Look for signs of rodents or insects and take preventive measures.
• Clean and Reverse Ceiling Fans: Clean fan blades and switch the direction to clockwise for winter.
